I currently own a small school in Stratford serving children aged 2-3. We are now accepting enrollment for our new BLack Rock Location for ages 3-6. A message from @mardimorrow : "I thank Mary Ellen LeMay, Doug Tallamy and @samgoater for inspiring the Black Rock Pollinator Partners to initiate our pollinator planter project on Fairfield Avenue. My goals were to increase public awareness of the importance of taking care of the insects that are essential to our planet's survival. As our Black Rock neighbors and visitors from near and far learn about our mission, I hope they'll go home and plant native flowers that butterflies, bees, beetles, hummingbirds and other pollinators require. They can go to websites (or follow on Facebook) organizations like Healthy Yards, Pollinator Friendly Yards, Pollinator Pathways, Aspetuck Land Trust, the Xerxes Society's Bee City USA, Doug Tallamy's Homegrown National Park and many others to learn what we should all be doing to preserve nature. I thank the 19 Fairfield Avenue business owners (so far) @businessownersofblackrock who have joined in the project to begin beautifying our business district. It has been a fantastic experience to engage with them and witness the sense of community among them. Black Rock is lucky to have so many generous and caring business owners. Come out and support them on Second Saturday, June 12! Neon Sol is also a new business, launching her line during maybe the most difficult economic times we have ever seen. Some of her story: “Although Neon Sol was officially launched in July 2020, there was a full year of plotting and laying the groundwork ahead of it. And it wasn't until I was furloughed at the beginning of the pandemic that I had the time to really set the wheels in motion. I've always been drawn to entrepreneurship, following in the footsteps of my mom and grandma - both fiber artists with their own businesses.” “I grew up in a very inspiring family: my parents are both artists, my grandparents on both sides were artists, inventors, innovators, and creators - creativity has always been strongly encouraged and nurtured. The 'sol' in Neon Sol is a nod to my cultural heritage (the Spanish word for 'sun') and a play on the word 'soul'. I've always been impassioned by the bright, bold colors found in the textiles of my dad's native Perú. And now I find I’m also inspired by visits to my boyfriend's family home in Puerto Rico.
